Protest Ends After Assam Government Gives Assurance on Land Rights
A protest demanding protection of indigenous land rights was called off after the Assam government provided assurances on addressing the concerns raised by the demonstrators, officials said. The agitation, which had drawn attention to issues related to land ownership and security, was suspended following discussions between representatives of the protesting groups and government authorities. According to participants, the assurances included a commitment to examine the demands within the existing legal framework and continue dialogue on safeguarding land rights. While welcoming the government’s response, protest leaders said they would closely monitor follow-up action, stressing the need for concrete measures to ensure long-term protection of indigenous land interests.
