AJYCP Holds Protest in Nagaon Seeking Protection of Indigenous Land and Political Rights

Nagaon:
The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday organised a protest in Nagaon district, demanding stronger protection of land ownership and political rights for indigenous communities in Assam. The demonstration witnessed participation from AJYCP members and supporters from various parts of central Assam.

Protesters marched through key areas of the town before reaching the district administration office, where a memorandum outlining their demands was submitted. The organisation expressed concern over what it described as increasing encroachment on indigenous land and the gradual erosion of political safeguards meant for native communities.

AJYCP leaders called upon the state government to take immediate steps to secure ancestral land, strictly enforce existing constitutional protections, and ensure that indigenous people are not marginalised in decision-making processes. They also stressed the need for long-term policies to preserve indigenous identity, culture, and rights.

Raising slogans and carrying placards, demonstrators warned that continued neglect of land and political issues could threaten the future of indigenous communities in Assam. The organisation stated that it would continue its movement until concrete measures are implemented.
