Assam Man Sentenced to Life for Setting Up Pakistan-Linked Terror Network
Guwahati: A special court in Assam has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for his involvement in establishing a terror module linked to a Pakistan-based banned extremist organisation. The verdict came after the court found him guilty of conspiring to expand the activities of the outfit in the state by recruiting members and strengthening its local network.
Investigating agencies said the accused played a key role in organising and operating the module, with the objective of spreading extremist ideology and facilitating terror-related activities in Assam. The case was probed under stringent anti-terror laws, and the court also imposed monetary fines along with the life sentence. Authorities described the judgment as a significant step in countering attempts by foreign-based terror groups to gain a foothold in the Northeast and reiterated their commitment to maintaining national security.
