Union Home Minister Amit Shah Begins Two-Day Assam Tour Today

Guwahati, Assam — Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Assam today, January 29, 2026, on a two-day official visit, according to official sources.

Shah is expected to land in Guwahati later in the day before proceeding to Dibrugarh, where he will stay overnight ahead of engagements planned for January 30.

As part of his visit, the Union Home Minister is slated to lay the foundation stone of the second complex of the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dibrugarh, a key infrastructure project aimed at strengthening legislative facilities in Upper Assam. He is also scheduled to address a large public rally at Khanikar Playground.

The itinerary further includes participation in cultural and community programmes, including attendance at a festival organised by the Mising community in Dhemaji district. In addition, Shah is expected to hold discussions with state leaders at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati on matters related to governance and organisational priorities.

The visit assumes significance as Assam moves towards the Assembly elections scheduled for March–April 2026 and follows the Union Home Minister’s previous tour of the state, during which several development initiatives were reviewed.
