First-Level Verification of EVMs and VVPATs Completed Across 34 Districts

The first-stage technical verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units has been completed in 34 districts of the State, marking a key step in election preparedness, officials confirmed.

The verification process was carried out over nearly a month, from December 11 to January 9, in strict compliance with the detailed guidelines, instructions and standard operating procedures prescribed by the Election Commission of India. Election authorities said the exercise was conducted under close supervision to ensure accuracy and consistency across districts.

To uphold transparency and reinforce trust in the electoral process, representatives of recognised political parties were present during the checking process. Their participation allowed for direct observation of procedures and ensured adherence to established norms at every stage.

As part of the exercise, officials inspected 43,348 ballot units, 36,113 control units, and 45,332 VVPAT units. All the machines examined during the first-level checking were found to be fully functional and suitable for use in upcoming elections across the State.

Election officials stated that the completion of this phase strengthens the institutional safeguards surrounding the use of electronic voting equipment and reflects continued efforts to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
