Major Narcotics Bust in Guwahati; Heroin Worth ₹2 Crore Seized
Guwahati | Feb 5:
Police in Guwahati have arrested two individuals and seized narcotics valued at around ₹2 crore during an operation at Ananda Nagar, marking a significant breakthrough in the city’s ongoing drive against drug trafficking.
The operation, carried out by Guwahati Police, led to the recovery of 360 grams of heroin. Preliminary findings indicate that the seized consignment was sourced from a neighbouring state, suggesting the presence of an inter-state supply network.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the operation through a public statement, describing the action as a clear signal of the state’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics. While confirming the inter-state link, he did not disclose further details about the origin of the supply.
Police officials said the seizure reflects intensified surveillance and intelligence-based enforcement in Guwahati, aimed at dismantling organised drug networks operating across regional borders. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals connected to the supply chain.
Authorities reiterated that strict action against drug trafficking remains a priority as part of Assam’s broader campaign to curb illegal narcotics.
