Prime Minister Narendra Modi Lands in Assam for Full-Day Tour; IAF Air Display on Agenda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Assam on Saturday for a scheduled day-long visit focused on infrastructure expansion, defence preparedness and regional development initiatives.
✈️ Historic Landing at Moran Emergency Landing Facility
A key highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) located along the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district. The Prime Minister arrived at the facility aboard an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft, marking a significant operational milestone for the Northeast. The 4.2-kilometre highway-based landing strip is the first such facility in Northeast India. Designed to support both military and civilian aircraft during emergencies, the project is expected to enhance disaster response capability and strengthen strategic connectivity in the region.
Officials stated that the facility can serve as an alternate runway during natural disasters, defence operations, or emergency evacuations.
🎖️ 40-Minute Indian Air Force Aerial Showcase
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister witnessed a special 40-minute aerial display conducted by the Indian Air Force. The showcase featured fighter aircraft including the Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Dassault Rafale, along with transport aircraft and helicopters. The demonstration highlighted operational readiness and the capability of the new landing facility to handle multiple aircraft types.
🛣️ Development Projects Worth Over Rs 5,000 Crore
During the visit, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple projects across Assam, collectively valued at over Rs 5,000 crore.
These initiatives span sectors such as:
- Road and bridge connectivity
- Urban transport
- Digital infrastructure
- Public service facilities
State officials said the projects are aimed at strengthening economic growth, improving mobility, and expanding public infrastructure in the Northeast. The visit also holds political significance as the state prepares for upcoming electoral activities, though the official agenda remained focused on infrastructure and development.
