Guwahati | February 21, 2026
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday attended the 87th Raising Day celebrations of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.
The event marked a historic moment as it was the first time the CRPF Day parade was organised in Assam and the Northeast region. Notably, it was also the first occasion the parade was conducted in a public stadium, allowing citizens to witness the ceremonial proceedings.
During the ceremony, Shah paid tribute to the 2,270 CRPF personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty since the force’s inception. He acknowledged the dedication, discipline and courage demonstrated by the force in safeguarding national security and maintaining internal peace across the country.
Addressing officers and jawans, the Home Minister highlighted the CRPF’s crucial role in counter-insurgency operations, anti-terror efforts and election security duties. He emphasised that the force has consistently stood as a pillar of strength in challenging situations, particularly in sensitive and border areas.
The 87th Raising Day celebrations featured a ceremonial parade, demonstrations of operational capabilities and honours to distinguished personnel. Officials stated that hosting the event in the Northeast reflects the Centre’s recognition of the region’s strategic importance and its deep association with national security.
The CRPF, established in 1939, remains one of India’s largest paramilitary forces and continues to play a vital role in ensuring law and order across the country.
