Nagaland: NECTAR Empowers LSC Contractors with Environmental, Social Standards Training
Kohima, Nagaland; February 21: The Nagaland Education Project– The Lighthouse (NECTAR) on Friday organised a one-day training and orientation programme on Environmental and Social Standards (ESS) for contractors engaged in the construction of 16 Lighthouse School Complexes (LSCs). The programme was held at the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Kohima.
Addressing the participants, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, stressed the importance of completing the LSCs, noting that delays would affect schools in rural Nagaland. He urged contractors to follow global compliance standards, as future development projects will require adherence to environmental and social norms.
Principal Director of DoSE and NECTAR Project Director, Shashank Pratap Singh, said the Lighthouse School Complexes are a key component of the World Bank–supported NECTAR project. He reminded contractors that they were selected through a merit-based process and encouraged timely, quality work in line with World Bank ESS requirements.
In her keynote address, Commissioner and Secretary of School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, highlighted that the LSCs are designed as hubs to support surrounding schools and called for civil works to be completed within the set timeframe. She also said the complexes will function as hub schools supporting spoke schools across districts.
The one-day orientation covered key aspects of environmental and social compliance, including labour welfare, occupational health and safety, prevention of sexual harassment, working conditions, and measures to mitigate environmental pollution.
