Shillong | May 7, 2026
Conrad K. Sangma has assured residents of Mawlasnia that development initiatives in the border region will move forward in coordination with Assam, while concerns related to mapping discrepancies will also be addressed.
During his visit to the village, the Meghalaya Chief Minister said certain Meghalaya villages were reportedly being shown under Assam in GPS and digital map records. He stated that the issue would be taken up with the concerned authorities to ensure necessary corrections are made.
Sangma emphasized that such technical discrepancies should not affect the identity, administration, or welfare benefits of people residing in the border areas. He reiterated that both Meghalaya and Assam are maintaining cooperation to ensure peace, stability, and development in the region.
The Chief Minister further assured villagers that infrastructure projects, connectivity, and public welfare schemes would continue without disruption. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining cordial relations between the two neighbouring states while resolving border-related concerns through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by Assam and Meghalaya to strengthen coordination and address long-pending interstate boundary matters through joint discussions and administrative cooperation.
