Assam Pushes for NATGRID Integration to Strengthen Crime and Land Data Systems
Guwahati, May 8:
The Assam government is moving forward with plans to integrate its Smart City surveillance systems and land-related databases with the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), aiming to enhance law enforcement capabilities and streamline data access for security agencies.
Officials indicated that the proposed integration will allow seamless sharing of critical data between multiple departments, including police, urban development bodies, and land revenue authorities. By linking these datasets with NATGRID, authorities expect faster access to real-time information, which could significantly improve crime detection and investigation processes.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize governance infrastructure and strengthen internal security mechanisms in the state. Smart City systems, which already include surveillance cameras and digital monitoring tools in urban areas, are expected to play a key role in feeding live data into the integrated network.
According to sources, the integration will also help in tracking land records more efficiently, reducing discrepancies, and aiding in the prevention of land-related fraud. Enhanced coordination between departments is anticipated to bring greater transparency and accountability in administrative processes.
Security experts believe that connecting Assam’s databases with NATGRID will align the state with national-level intelligence frameworks, enabling better coordination with central agencies during investigations and emergency responses.
The move reflects Assam’s growing focus on leveraging technology for governance and public safety, particularly in rapidly developing urban centres under the Smart City mission.
