Assam Writers Devabrat Das and Sahaisuli Brahma Win Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025

Two writers from Assam have been honoured at the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025, receiving national recognition for their contributions to literature in Assamese and Bodo languages.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the authors on social media, expressing pride in the state’s literary achievements.

The awards were presented to Devabrat Das for his Assamese work Karhi Khelar Sadhu, and Sahaisuli Brahma for the Bodo book Dwngnwi Lama Mwnse Gathon.

In his message, Sarma said he was delighted that Assam’s literary excellence had been recognised at the national level and wished both writers continued success in their literary journeys.

The Sahitya Akademi Awards are among India’s most prestigious literary honours. They are presented annually to authors for outstanding works in various Indian languages, highlighting significant contributions to the country’s literary landscape.

The recognition of works in Assamese and Bodo literature reflects the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of Assam and the continued growth of regional literature on the national stage.
