Kohima Science College Becomes Nagaland’s First Government Institution to Qualify for DBT-STAR Scheme

Kohima, April 2026: Kohima Science College has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first government college in Nagaland to qualify for the DBT-STAR College Scheme, an initiative aimed at strengthening undergraduate science education across the country.

The recognition under the scheme is expected to enhance the institution’s academic and research capabilities, particularly in the field of life sciences. The programme, implemented by the Department of Biotechnology under the Government of India, focuses on improving laboratory infrastructure, promoting hands-on learning, and encouraging innovation among students.

Officials and academic observers have described the achievement as a major step forward for higher education in Nagaland, highlighting the growing emphasis on scientific research and skill-based learning in the region. The inclusion in the DBT-STAR scheme is also likely to provide additional funding and resources to support faculty development, student training, and research-oriented activities.

The development is being seen as a boost for science education in the Northeast, with expectations that more institutions will be encouraged to pursue similar recognition in the future.
