Assam’s Longest Flyover Connecting Dighalipukhuri and Noonmati to Open on March 10

Guwahati | March 9

Guwahati is set to witness a major addition to its road infrastructure as Assam’s longest flyover connecting Dighalipukhuri and Noonmati is scheduled to open to the public on March 10.

The elevated corridor, officially named the Maharaja Prithu Flyover, stretches for about 5 kilometres, making it the longest flyover constructed in the state so far. The project is designed to improve connectivity between the eastern and central parts of Guwahati, passing through busy areas such as Chandmari, Rajgarh Road, and the GNB Road corridor.

The flyover has been built as a four-lane elevated road aimed at reducing congestion on one of the city’s most heavily used routes. Traffic along this stretch often faces delays due to multiple signals, commercial activity, and high vehicle density.

Once operational, the structure is expected to provide a direct elevated connection between Noonmati and Dighalipukhuri, allowing vehicles to bypass several crowded intersections and significantly reduce travel time for daily commuters.

Officials say the project is part of broader efforts to improve urban mobility and road infrastructure in Guwahati, a city that has witnessed a steady rise in vehicle numbers in recent years. The flyover is also expected to support smoother movement for office commuters, public transport, and commercial vehicles travelling across the city.

The opening of the Maharaja Prithu Flyover is being seen as an important step toward addressing traffic congestion and strengthening Guwahati’s urban transport network.
