Improved Road Connectivity Driving Growth in Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati, Assam | March 17, 2026
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday highlighted the transformative impact of road infrastructure in the state, stating that improved connectivity is contributing to a new phase of economic growth.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister noted that Assam’s road network is not only enhancing connectivity but also creating new opportunities across regions. He cited the Golaghat–Merapani road, developed under the Asom Mala initiative, as a key example of this progress.
According to him, the project has helped bring remote areas closer, improving access to markets, services, and essential facilities. The enhanced connectivity is expected to support local economies and strengthen regional integration.
The Asom Mala programme is part of the state government’s broader push to upgrade road infrastructure and improve transportation links, particularly in rural and previously underserved areas.
Officials believe that such developments will play a crucial role in boosting trade, mobility, and overall socio-economic growth in Assam.
