IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Assam Over Next 2–3 Days

Guwahati, April 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds across Assam over the next few days, raising concerns of flooding and disruptions in several districts.

According to the latest weather bulletin, isolated areas may experience very heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms likely to be accompanied by lightning and wind speeds reaching 40–50 km/h. The prevailing weather conditions are being attributed to a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam and adjoining regions, which is intensifying moisture inflow.

In Guwahati, continuous rainfall has already led to waterlogging in multiple localities, disrupting traffic movement and daily life. Authorities have warned that further rainfall could worsen conditions, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Officials have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall periods, and stay alert for possible urban flooding, tree falls, and temporary power disruptions.

The IMD is closely monitoring the situation and is expected to issue regular updates and advisories as weather conditions evolve.
